Olga Chernysheva was born in Moscow in 1962. She graduated from the Moscow Cinema Academy (VGIK), and from Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam in 1996. She is a Russian artist who has gained a phenonmenal recognition not only in Russia but also abroad. Since the end of the 1990's she has been concentrating on recording the situations that surround her in her everyday life. Her pictures capture Russian life in a tender thaw. In 2001 Olga Chernysheva was selected to represent Russia in the Russian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Her work has been included in many international exhibitions such as "Sites", the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art 2005 (held at the Moscow House of Photography), "Contemporary video from Russia", a video programme held at the Photographer's Gallery, London, 2005; "The Happiness Zone" held at the State Russian Museum, St Petersburg, 2004; "Berlin -Moscow/Moscow-Berlin" held at the State Historical Museum, Moscow, 2004 and at Martin - Gropius - Bau in Berlin, 2003; "The Photo biennale 2004" held at the Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow; "Watch Out!" held at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Oslo, 2004 and "System of Coordinates" held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb, 2004.
