MAKAREVICH AND ELAGINA AT KUNSTHISTORISCHE MUSEUM IN VIENNA 2009

Toadstools, Pinocchio and Old Masters: Conceptual Art from Russia in the Picture Gallery of the KHM

A toadstool-tower opposite Bruegel's Tower of Babel, a Pinocchio taking the place of Rembrandt's Ganymede: the Russian artists, Elena Elagina and Igor Makarevich, have placed their interventions between and next to the old masters in the Picture Gallery. "in situ", the second exhibition organised by the Stella Art Foundation Moscow in the KHM, was opened on Monday May 18, 2009 and will be on show until August 2, 2009. Sabine Haag, director general of the KHM, called it "a perceptive and thought-provoking deliberation on the Museum's iconic works".

Both artists, Elena Elagina and Igor Makarevich, and the show's curator, Boris Manner, as well as the director of the Stella Art Foundation, Alexander Rytov, and the ambassador of the Russian Federation, H.E. Stanislaw Osadichy, were present at the opening.
